How to Delete Pages From a PDF

Removing blank scans, duplicate copies and unnecessary cover sheets makes a document shorter, lighter and easier to read.

Documents accumulate pages nobody wants. A duplex scanner produces a blank sheet for every single-sided original. Exported reports carry a title page and a legal notice. A merged bundle contains the same certificate twice. None of it is harmful, but all of it makes the file longer than it needs to be.

Identify the pages first

Open the document in a reader with a thumbnail sidebar and scroll through it once, writing down the positions you want gone. Blank pages are obvious at thumbnail size, which is exactly why the sidebar is worth using rather than paging through at full size.

Removing them

  1. Upload the PDF.
  2. Enter the pages to remove, using commas and hyphens — for example 2, 5-7, 12.
  3. Run the tool and check the remaining page count against what you expected.
  4. Download the trimmed document.

Work from a single list in one pass. Deleting a few pages, then deleting more from the result, means the numbering shifts underneath you.

What deletion does not do

The new file is rebuilt from the pages you kept, so the removed content is not present in it. That is different from hiding a page, and different again from redacting text within a page you are keeping. If the concern is confidential material inside a retained page, deletion is not the answer.

Keep the original

Deletion produces a new file rather than editing yours in place, but it is still worth keeping the source until you have confirmed the result. Restoring a page you removed by mistake is impossible without it.

Conclusion

List the pages once, remove them in a single pass, verify the count, and keep the original until you are sure. A tidy document is noticeably easier for the next person to work with.
